Science & Technology

At Pimlico Primary, we want nurture and build on pupils’ natural curiosity through learning about science and technology. Our curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, physics, and technology. We want them to not only learn the facts but also develop a deep understanding of how the world works.

In science, our lessons build each year, deepening your child’s knowledge of key concepts. From observing plant life cycles to exploring the wonders of the Solar System, we craft lessons that inspire a sense of wonder and a passion for discovery. We want your child to understand how scientific and technological advancements happen. Through observing demonstrations and hands-on experiments, children learn by conducting their own investigations and learning about the history of scientific ideas. They’ll work on projects and explore the history of discoveries, learning not just the “what,” but also the “how” and “why” behind the innovations that shape our world.

In computing, your child will learn essential skills like how computers work, how to design simple programs, and how to stay safe online. These skills are crucial for future success in our technology-driven world. In design technology, they’ll put their math and science knowledge to use by creating and evaluating their own projects, turning their ideas into reality.

We also teach food technology, where your child learns more than just cooking. They’ll discover the basics of nutrition, the origins of food, and the importance of a balanced diet. By preparing healthy meals, they’ll gain a valuable life skill that’s both fun and essential.

To make learning even more exciting, we enrich our curriculum with real-world experiences. Our proximity to world-class museums like the Science Museum and Natural History Museum means we can take learning beyond the classroom, giving your child firsthand experiences that deepen their understanding. We also connect them with nature through activities like using our weather station, birdwatching, and growing plants.
